What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is an integrative approach to health that applies yogic tools – postures, movement, breath work, meditation, and more, to address physical, mental and emotional well-being. Western medicine is really good at providing life-saving care and curbing symptoms. But it is not always good at addressing the underlying causes of disease.

Yoga therapists provide the knowledge, education and support around lifestyle changes that primary care doctors and specialists don’t have time to address.

Individual sessions allow the practices to be tailored to your unique needs. Group yoga therapy classes offer social support and connection, a vital contribution to our well-being.

  • Yoga therapy works by helping people be more aware of their bodies, their breathing, and their thoughts.

    • calms the stress response

    • fosters healthy breathing

    • improves balance, mobility and strength

    • transforms our conditioned responses

    • invites self-knowledge and reflection

  • The overall goal of yoga therapy is to foster balance. There are no right or wrong choices for yoga practice, diet, or lifestyle, only discovery of patterns that lead towards balance or imbalance.

Yoga therapists view disease through the lens of:

    • Overuse

    • Underuse

    • Misuse

We help clients become aware of how actions and thoughts support or diminish health. My teacher, Joseph LePage, says “awareness IS the healing”.

  • I specialize in healthy aging. I help people get out of pain, regain strength, mobility and balance, and protect their posture as they age.

I have advanced training in yoga therapy for osteoporosis and pelvic floor health.
