What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is an integrative approach to health that applies yogic tools to address physical, mental and emotional well-being.

We provide knowledge and support for lifestyle changes that doctors and specialists don’t have time to address.

I specialize in musculoskeletal conditions and healthy aging. With decades of experience in movement and physical rehab, I help people get out of pain, regain strength, mobility and balance, and protect their posture as they age.

I don’t tell you what to do, I work with you to create a practice that is tailored to your unique needs, is enjoyable and brings results.

  • Yoga therapy works by helping people be more aware of their bodies, their breathing, and their thoughts.

    • calms the stress response

    • fosters healthy breathing

    • improves balance, mobility and strength

    • transforms our conditioned responses

    • invites self-knowledge and reflection

‍ ‍There are no right or wrong choices for exercise, diet, or lifestyle, only the discovery of patterns that lead towards balance or imbalance.

We help clients become aware of how actions and thoughts support or diminish health, and create strategies for transformation.

  • Yoga practice supports a healthy skeleton in multiple ways.

    Bone re-modelling

    • Bones, like muscles, become stronger when they are appropriately loaded

    • Yoga loads the bones in multiple vectors (angles), increasing their resilience

    Yoga strengthens muscles

    • Muscles pull on bones. As muscles get stronger, bones have to become more dense and strong to support the pull of muscles.

    Fall prevention

    • Yoga practice improves balance, reducing risk of fractures from falling.

    • Yoga is practiced at a moderate pace that pays attention to alignment, making it a safe practice for joints while also strengthening bones.

  • I have advanced training in yoga therapy for osteoporosis and pelvic floor health.
